Forum on 15 July 2016

What can be done to increase well-being in retirement for New Zealand women? You are invited to attend a forum on 15 July hosted by the Retirement Policy and Research Centre (RPRC):

The high-cost chromosome - XX retirement: lower pay, less savings, longer lives

Women are paid 18% to 25% less than men through their working lives, and often take time out of the workforce to raise children. Consequently, their median savings for retirement are significantly less than the median man’s retirement saving. Then women live from age 65, on average, three years longer than men, and are more likely to need rest home care so must stretch out their smaller retirement pot over those extra years.

Gender equality is a Sustainable Development Goal agreed in September 2015 by 193 governments, including our own.

This forum will explore what can be done to increase well-being in retirement for New Zealand women.

Speakers

  • Associate Professor Susan St John, Director, RPRC: The problem that has no name (introduction)
  • Laura Abba, Head of Strategy & Customer Experience, ANZ: Gender differences in Investment Funds and Insurance
  • Associate Professor Jennifer Curtin, Politics and International Relations, School of Social Sciences: Gender inequality in New Zealand
  • Sharon Giblett, Financial Adviser, Women in Super: What women are asking
  • Dr Claire Dale, Research Fellow, RPRC: UK and Australia experience
  • Associate Professor Susan St John, Director, RPRC: Policy implications of discrimination for women

There will also be an open discussion about the way forward.

Please register for this event – we hope to see you there.
